PACERS ACADEMY SCIENCE MINI LAB
The PTEF granted funding for a “Mini Science Lab? at the Pacers Academy High School to enable the at risk students taking physics, biology, and chemistry classes to engage in hands-on activities in a laboraroty setting. The mission of the Pacers Academy is to provide an alternative educational program to recapture Pike High School and Indianapolis Public School students at risk for not graduating. The Pacers Academy provides these students with an alternative setting and opportunity to obtain a diploma on a pace more relevant to their individual lifestyles. The Pacers Academy also seeks to prepare students for life after school by helping them finish their academic studies and teaching them to be productive members of the community.

C.L.A.S.S.
C.L.A.S.S. (Connecting Learning Assures Successful Students) is a professional development model that offers training and coaching on brain research, curriculum development, and teaching strategies. The teachers use teaching strategies that connect with the Brain Compatible Elements: Trust, Enriched Environment, Choice, Adequate Time, and Meaningful Content. The power of brain research teamed with the practical knowledge of how to apply it in our school helps keep our instructional practices meaningful and connected to real world experiences. It integrates thematic instruction, as well as project and experience-based instructional practices. It models lifelong learning for our students and school community. As a part of our C.L.A.S.S. affiliation, we have been a training-site for four years (Fishback Creek) and have hosted the Brainworks Summer Institute for approximately 1000 teachers each summer. As a result of the Summer Institute, we have had hundreds of educators visit our school throughout the school year to see our instructional practices and programs. Teacher education programs from Butler University and University of Indianapolis include Fishback Creek visits as a part of their required program visitations. It is also highly endorsed by Purdue.

ELLIS SOFTWARE
ELLIS (English Language Learning and Instruction System) is an integrated learning system for ESL/EFL and bilingual English learners of all levels. It features over 1,000 hours of instruction, including full-motion video with hundreds of paths and outcomes that lets learners "tailor" content to their interests and abilities.

The software was first recommended and presented to the school district by the ENL teacher at Central Elementary School, Tina Greene. The PTEF helped to purchase the software for the elementary schools, the middle schools, and the C.L.E.A.R. Center.
