Instead of throwing these computers away or disposing of them at auction, these computers can be refurbished and made available to the families of Pike Township who cannot afford to purchase one...Pike's current Microsoft licensing agreement does not allow the district to give away the Operating System and MS Office Software and these comptuers are not functional without this software...Microsoft does have a program called the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) Americas program which provides a way to purchase software licenses in order to provide computers to low-income families.

The PTEF granted $10,000 start-up funds for the C.L.A.S.S. Classroom Management Program to be implemented in all Pike Schools.

C.L.A.S.S. (Connecting Learning Assures Successful Students) is a professional development model that offers training and coaching on brain research, curriculum development, and teaching strategies. The teachers use teaching strategies that connect with the Brain Compatible Elements: Trust, Enriched Environment, Choice, Adequate Time, and Meaningful Content. The power of brain research teamed with the practical knowledge of how to apply it in our school helps keep our instructional practices meaningful and connected to real world experiences. It integrates thematic instruction, as well as project and experience-based instructional practices. It models lifelong learning for our students and school community. As a part of our C.L.A.S.S. affiliation, we have been a training-site for four years (Fishback Creek) and have hosted the Brainworks Summer Institute for approximately 1000 teachers each summer. As a result of the Summer Institute, we have had hundreds of educators visit our school throughout the school year to see our instructional practices and programs. Teacher education programs from Butler University and University of Indianapolis include Fishback Creek visits as a part of their required program visitations. It is also highly endorsed by Purdue.
